What is the difference between cloud and local storage?

Cloud Storage

Cloud storage is quite different from your local/hard drive storage. In clouds storage you data is stored on many physical servers or virtual servers that hosted by third party services provider companies. An example of a cloud computing file storage provider is Dropbox. Files that are stored on Dropbox can be accessed from any device via the Internet.
Cloud storage also provide the facility to back you data from any internet connected devices, can access this data from any web browsers

Local Storage

Local storage is always cost effective because it has the benefit of one-time upfront cost. Another factor which is always very important in which local storage still gets priority is the security of data which is stored in your local storage. Unless someone has physical access to your desktop or portable hard drive, your files aren't susceptible to hacking or theft. With a cloud service, once you upload your files, the provider has complete control over where and how your data is stored. This is one of many reasons why it's crucial to read the terms and privacy policies of any cloud storage provider you considering using.
